Privacy Policy
Effective 25 August 2026
thecomp is operated by Thresholdio Pte. Ltd. (UEN 202613340M), 11 Keppel Bay Drive, #01-17, Singapore 098017 ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the thecomp app and the thecomp.app website, why we collect it, and what control you have over it.
Contact us about anything here at support@thecomp.app.
Who this applies to
thecomp is a competition management app for sports clubs, societies and leagues. Two kinds of people appear in it:
- Account holders — people who sign up and use the app.
- Members — people added to a league roster by an organiser. A member may or may not hold their own account.
If an organiser added you to a league and you have not created an account, we hold data about you that the organiser entered. You still have the rights set out in "Your rights". Contact us or your organiser.
Minimum age
thecomp is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, contact support@thecomp.app and we will delete it.
What we collect
Information you provide
- Account details — email address, and a password if you register with email. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address and name from that provider. We never receive your password.
- Profile information — display name, profile photo (optional), gender, country, and unit preferences. Gender is used to present the correct playing options for your sport, such as tee selection in golf.
- Competition information — your handicap or rating, any governing-body identifier you supply (for example a GHIN number), member number, and any custom fields your organiser configures.
- Contact details — phone number and address, if you or your organiser provide them.
Information created by using the app
- Competition data — scores, rounds and matches, fixtures, results, standings, teams and groupings, and the competitions you take part in.
- Ledger records — amounts recorded against you by an organiser for entry fees, fines, merchandise, prize pools and similar. No money moves through thecomp. The Ledger is a shared record of what is owed; settlement happens between you and your organiser outside the app.
- Content you upload — profile photos, league logos.
Sign in with Apple and private email
If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email address, Apple gives us a relay address ending @privaterelay.appleid.com instead of your real one. We can send email to that address; we never learn your actual address.
Technical information
thecomp collects no analytics, usage tracking, crash reporting or advertising identifiers. We do not build behavioural profiles of you, and nothing in thecomp tracks you across other apps or websites.
Our hosting provider processes standard technical information, such as your IP address, as an ordinary part of delivering the service securely.
We do not collect your location. thecomp requests no location permission on Android. On iOS a location description exists solely because the system photo picker requires one when you choose an image from your gallery — the app does not request, read or store your position. Course and venue search matches on name, club, country, city and state only; there is no "near me" feature.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect payment card or bank details. If we offer paid plans, payment is handled entirely by Google Play or the App Store. We would receive confirmation that a subscription is active — never your card details.
- We do not use advertising networks, tracking pixels or advertising identifiers. If we introduce sponsor content in future, it will be served by us directly and sponsors will not receive your personal data.
How we use your data
- To provide the app: authenticating you, showing rosters, recording scores, calculating handicaps, allowances and results, and maintaining standings and league records.
- To operate the Ledger for your league.
- To send transactional email — verification, password reset, league invitations.
- To fix faults and improve the app.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your data for automated decision-making producing legal effects.
Legal bases (UK and EEA users)
- Contract — to provide the app to you as an account holder.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the app secure and working, to fix faults, and to maintain accurate competition records for the leagues you belong to.
- Consent — for anything we ask you about separately. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose data by law.
Who can see your data
Inside your league
Other members of a league you belong to can see your display name, profile photo, handicap or rating, scores and results. Whether they can see Ledger amounts depends on settings your organiser controls. Reasons attached to fines are never shown to other members.
Your organiser can see and edit your roster record, including contact details you or they have entered.
Public league pages
An organiser can publish a league to a public web page on thecomp.app. If they do:
- Which members appear is controlled by the organiser — all members, only members who opt in, or nobody.
- Whether handicaps and photos appear is controlled by league settings and, where the league uses opt-in mode, by your own choice.
- Ledger totals appear only if the organiser has made them public. Fine reasons never appear.
If you do not want to appear on a public page, ask your organiser or change your profile settings in the app.
Service providers
We use Google Firebase (Google Cloud) for authentication, database, file storage, hosting and serverless functions. Firebase processes data on our instructions as our processor.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes. We do not share data with advertisers or data brokers.
We may disclose data if required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
International transfers
We are based in Singapore. Google Cloud may process and store data in data centres outside your country. Where UK or EU law applies, such transfers rely on the safeguards Google provides, including standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Account data — while your account is open. Deleted when you delete your account.
- Competition records — scores, results and standings form part of a league's permanent record and are retained after account deletion, with your name replaced by a placeholder. This keeps each league's history accurate for the other people who took part.
- Ledger records — retained after account deletion, with your name replaced by a placeholder, so league balances remain correct. Amounts, dates and types are preserved.
- Course and venue records — venues you added remain available, since other people's results refer to them. Your ownership of them is removed.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app: Menu → tap your name at the top → the ⋮ menu → Delete account. You will be asked to confirm.
You can also request deletion without installing the app, at https://thecomp.app/delete-account, or by emailing support@thecomp.app.
Deleted permanently and irreversibly:
- Your sign-in. You cannot sign in again.
- Your contact details in every league — email, phone, handicap identifier, address and any custom fields your organiser recorded.
- Your profile photo and any images you uploaded.
- Your friends, friend requests and notifications, including references to you held in other people's friend lists.
- Any league join codes you created.
- Private rounds where you were the only participant.
Retained, with your name replaced by a placeholder:
- Your roster entry in each league, marked as a deleted account and set inactive. Nickname, photos and account links are removed.
- Your scores and results in completed events. Positions and results are preserved so the league's records stay accurate for everyone else who took part.
- Your Ledger entries. Amounts, dates and types are preserved so balances remain correct; only your name is replaced.
We describe these retained records as pseudonymised rather than anonymous. They no longer identify you directly, but someone who was in that league may still be able to work out who a placeholder refers to. We keep them because removing them would corrupt other people's competition records and financial balances.
To ask for a retained record to be removed entirely, contact support@thecomp.app and we will weigh the request against the interests of the other people in that league.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your personal data, and to receive a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these, contact support@thecomp.app.
Singapore (PDPA). You may request access to and correction of personal data we hold about you, and withdraw consent to its use. We will respond within the timeframes the PDPA requires.
UK and EEA (GDPR). You have the rights above and the right to complain to your supervisory authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.
Much of your data can be changed directly in the app under Menu → Settings and Menu → League Profile.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to league data is restricted by database rules enforcing league membership and role. Contact details are held in a separately restricted record accessible only to you and your organiser.
To report a security vulnerability, contact security@thecomp.app.
No system is perfectly secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We will post changes on this page and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell you in the app or by email.
